North Iceland Photo Workshop - 6 Days

North Iceland is known among photographers for its nature beauty and grand waterfalls, some of the biggest in Europe and the beautiful lake Mývatn, which is known for rich birdlife. The most famous waterfall of them all is Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe. It is located in Jökulsárgljúfur, a canyon carved out by the glacial river Jökulsá á Fjöllum, which is a part of the Vatnajökull National Park. Other beautiful waterfalls are Selfoss, Goðafoss, Aldeyjarfoss and Kolugilsfoss. These waterfalls are all within the workshop’s itinerary. Around lake Mývatn you will find highly diverse birdlife in the summer, waders and some unique duck species can be found there. A beautiful river, Laxá flows out of the lake, and along with the Mývatn lake it is protected as a nature reserve. On the east side of the lake at Námafjall we will find an area with colourful geothermal area with mud-pots and steaming fumaroles and sulphurous mud springs. The Hvítserkur Sea-stack is a unique rock formation which many people describe as a pre-historic creature turned to stone on the beach, truly a special place to visit. The beautiful Basalt columns at Kálfshamarsvík in combination with a lighthouse also makes interesting photo opportunities.
